Anna Azari was born in Lithuania in 1959 and in 1972 immigrated with her parents to Israel. She joined the Israeli diplomatic service in 1983. From 1989 to 1992 Azari worked as a consul in San Francisco and since the late 1990s she has been one of the key figures in Israeli diplomatic activity in the republics of the former USSR, now the Commonwealth of Independent States. In 1995-1997 she worked in the Israeli Embassy in Moscow, in the rank of envoy and first secretary. In 1999-2003 she was the Ambassador of Israel to Ukraine and Moldova (combining the two posts) and was considered one of the most popular foreign diplomats by representatives of the Ukrainian mass media. Anna Azari served as Israel’s Ambassador to Russia from 2006 to 2010.
