Tel Aviv University has opened up its Sackler School of Medicine to give academic sanctuary to medical students from hurricane-ravaged Tulane University in New Orleans. In addition, any college student from the region affected by the storm may apply to TAU’s Lowy School for Overseas Students where deadlines are being waived to accommodate the victims. Both the Sackler School and Lowy School programs are conducted in English. This initiative was adopted by several of Israel’s universities in cooperation with the Hillel Foundations for Jewish Campus Life and the UJC (United Jewish Communities). It includes assistance in placement, grants for airfare and initial expenses, a tuition waiver for qualified students, and overseas travel information.
